Power/Statistical Sources 
Answers to questions that begin with "how much" or "how many" can often be found in a book of statistics. These information sources contain charts and graphs of numerical facts or data. Statistics are useful in providing evidence or support for a theory or hypothesis. The Statistical Abstract of the United States is the basic source for data about a variety of topics.
The World Almanac and Book of

It has been said that 78% of factual questions can be answered using the World
Almanac. It is full of statistics related to a variety of topics. It comes out
yearly. The current copy is kept at the Reference Desk. Older copies dating to
1947 are located in the stacks on the third floor. Palomar owns an 1868 World
Almanac which is located in the Rare Book Room.
County and City Extra: Annual

Includes vital statistics, crime, employment, housing, economic, health, population data,
and more on every state, county, metropolitan area, congressional district, and for all
cities in the United States with populations of 25,000 or more.
Statistical Abstract of the United
States REF HA202 .A1
Contains statistical information collected by the federal government and is published
annually. The most comprehensive source of statistics useful to provide supporting
evidence on a wide range of topics. Pervious editions going back to 1944 are located
in the stacks on the third floor.
The Time Almanac
