Locating Books/Online Catalog/WebCat

Introduction

Online Catalog Call Numbers Library of Congress Classification System Catalog Searching Tips

The library catalog, also known as WebCat, is a bibliographic database that has a record of all the books, videos, and CD's, that Palomar has in its library collection.

SEARCHING THE CATALOG
You can search in the catalog many ways.  The most common are: author search (be sure to type in last name first); title search (ignore a, an, the at the beginning of titles); and subject search.  You can also ask the computer to conduct a 'search everything' search.  This is especially useful if you don't know the author's name, title or the exact subject of the information that you are looking for.

After you have typed in your search statement and pressed enter, one of three things will occur:
    1.  The computer will say 'item not found' and it will list some possible alternative search choices.
(This may be the result of having misspelled your search request; check your spelling.)
    2.  One record for one book will be displayed.
    3.  More than one record will be found (the computer will indicate at the top of the screen the   number of items found related to your search request).  There is a forward command on the screen to look at the records on the following screens.
