ARTstor Registration and Features

The ability to access, search, manipulate content and upload data from ARTstor is controlled by 3 different user levels:

Registered User

As a registered user, you can:

  1. Save 'image groups' of ARTstor images.
  2. Add personal notes to your files.
  3. Set up Instructor Privileges.
  4. Download and use the Offline Image Viewer (OIV) presentation software. With the OIV you may create presentations using saved ARTstor images. An internet connection is not needed when making a presentation using the OIV (to download the software, first logon as a registered user and from the 'Tools' pull-down menu select 'Download Offline Image Viewer' )

To Register:

  1. You must be using a computer at Palomar College campus or login from off-campus (Palomar College students and employees only)
  2. From the ARTstor welcome screen, click "Go"
  3. Click 'Register' in the upper right hand corner of the next screen.
  4. You will be prompted to fill in an email address and password of your choice. If you encounter a problem or have questions about the ARTstor registration process, click 'Help' on the registration form.
  5. Each time you access ARTstor after this, click "Logon" at the basic search screen to gain entry to the advanced features.

NOTE: Accessing ARTstor off-campus with your Palomar College username/password allows you to use basic features as an 'unregistered user' only. To access the advanced features on- OR off-campus, you must also click "logon" at the basic search screen and enter your ARTstor registered user information. Registered User access is good for 120 days after the last usage - every time you "logon" you reset the clock another 120 days.

Instructor Privileges

At this level, you can take full advantage of ARTstor's capabilities. This includes all of the functions available to Unregistered and Registered users plus:

  1. The ability to create folders of images to share with colleagues and students
  2. Add and share comments.
  3. Upload your own digital images into a Personal Collection. These sharable image and note files can be used for teaching, reviewing and testing; shared files may be presented online or offline using the Offline Image Viewer (see instructions above for downloading the viewer).

To set up Instructor Privileges:

  1. Follow the instructions above to register or logon to ARTstor.

  2. After you "Logon" select the "Tools" pull-down menu and choose "Obtain Instructor Privileges." Follow the instructions on the pop-up window to complete the registration process.

  3. Once set up, each time you "Logon" as a Registered User you automatically gain access to Instructor Privileges.

Additional Help

For excellent guides to access levels, user capabilities and extensive troubleshooting tips, unregistered users may open the ARTstor database while on campus (see the basic users guide for instructions) and select "Help" on the upper right corner of the ARTstor toolbar.

Registered users may login and click "Help" in the same way, but will see an additional "Tools" button in the toolbar. Use this button to create and work with shared folders, download the Offline Image Viewer, or initiate a request to upgrade to Instructor privileges (Level 3).

For instructors just beginning to use ARTstor as a teaching tool, or for those wanting to advance their skills, ARTstor offers 4 levels of online training, or "webinars". To register for ARTstor training sessions, click here. Once registered, Instructors can print training handouts and exercises which are useful additions to the online training sessions.
