Using ARTstor
The ARTstor online database is a collection of approximately 500,000 high-quality digital images with descriptions of historical and modern paintings, architecture and decorative arts, photography, sculpture, and archaeological and anthropological objects. Many of these images have been taken from the slide collections of University of California, San Diego. Search for Images
Go to http://prozy.palomar.edu/login?url=http://www.artstor.org or to the Library Database site http://library.palomar.edu/OnlineDatabases/databases.htm and select ARTstor
At the ARTstor home page/welcome screen click "Go"
Under the header Basic Search, type one or more keywords describing the image you want. You do not have to use "AND" between keywords. ARTstor will search for images whose descriptions contain all the keywords entered. For instance, to find images of landscapes with bridges in Chinese art, type landscape bridges china
Next, select an image collection to search in the box marked All Collections. You can leave the box unchanged to search all of ARTstor, or select a specific collection by clicking on the down-arrow and highlighting one.
Click the Search button.
Your search results will display on a page of small 'thumbnail'
images. By double-clicking an image, a new pop-up window will display a larger
version of the thumbnail. To see descriptive information about that image (such as
artist, title, original dimensions, repository, etc.), click the
button. This is located at the bottom of
the pop-up window.
