Annotated Bibliographies
What is an Annotated Bibliography?
The annotated bibliography is an alphabetical list of research sources, cited in
the proper format (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.), that provides a description of the
source in the form of a paragraph or paragraphs following the citation. NOTE:
Your professor will specify how lengthy this description shall be. These
paragraphs following the citation are called the annotation. The annotation
should fully describe the source and then provide a critical evaluation of the
source, considering such factors as the usefulness and reliability of the
source; comments about the format and content; and the writer's views or
reactions to the source. Sources often included in an annotated bibliography
are: books; periodicals; journals; video and audio; websites; and, databases.
