PolyRhythms Sundays 3PM-6PM (PST/PDT)

Hosted by Roberto Criado

About the program...

PolyRhythms is a program that features Tropical Latin Music and Latin Jazz. Selected recordings, in vinyl (LPs) and CDs, of music spanning 6 decades, covering the full spectrum of rhythms and styles encompassed in Tropical Latin Music and Latin Jazz, are highlighted every week on the program.

I regularly play music recorded in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. I have a good sampling of music by Arsenio Rodriguez and his group, Felix Chappottin y sus Estrellas, Conjunto Casino, Beny More, Orquesta Aragon; as well as music by Machito and his AfroCuban Orchestra, Tito Puente and Tito Rodriguez, Eddie Palmieri, Rafael Cortijo and Ismael Rivera, El Gran Combo, La Sonora Poncen~a, Roberto Roena y su Apollo Sound, Willie Rosario... just to name a few.

Of course, the 'new stuff' is also played. I'm talking about music by Issac Delgado, Paulito F.G. y su Elite, Manolito y su Trabuco, Ritmo Oriental, La Reve, Adalberto Alvarez, Son14... and more.

As far as Latin Jazz, the program features music by Irakere, Chucho Valdes, Ralph Irizarry, Mark Levine and the Latin Tinge, Tolu, Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, The TropiJazz All-Stars... 'you catch my drift'.

The program has been on the airwaves of KKSM 1320 AM, Palomar College Radio, since June 2003. Originally the program aired on Fridays from 3 to 6 pm. In January 2004 we moved to our current slot, Sundays from 3 to 6 pm.

You're invite to tune in and enjoy the ABSOLUTE BEST in Tropical Latin Music and Latin Jazz on PolyRhythms. Sundays from 3 to 6 pm (PST/PDT) on Palomar College Radio KKSM 1320 AM, Cox Digital Cable Channel 958 (in Stereo on your TV set !!!), or on the Web at kksm.palomar.edu .... VAYA!!

About the host...

I am a 'fiend' of the music I feature on my program. I've been collecting recordings of this music for the past 30 years. I am also very interested in folkloric music from the African Diaspora around the world. My collection includes many recordings of Afro-Cuban, and Afro-Peruvian folklore.

I also very much enjoy Jazz and Latin Jazz music. I have many of these recordings which I feature on PolyRhythms.

I am an amateur conga drums player and an enthusiastic dancer; even though I don't go out partying/dancing much any more !!.

Hosting PolyRhythms is a total joy for me, and I sincerely hope that our listeners enjoy the music I select for the program every week.
