The San Diego Region Library Association events are operated as both fundraiser events to provide the money for the scholarship fund and as educational and social opportunities for members and non-members. Members generally receive a discount on the donation requested.
A library of interest is selected for the event, and if out of the area or limited parking access, transportation is arranged. The tour may include stops at other points of interest. Recent tours have been held at the Los Angeles Central Public Library, the new National University Library, and the San Diego Zoo.
Summer--Scholarship Fund Raiser
The summer event is the most important of the fundraising events for the SDRLA (formerly PLA) scholarship fund. The site selected is not necessarily directly connected to libraries, but is a pleasant interlude for librarians and support staff to gather and enjoy refreshments. Recent sites have included the Scripps Museum and Aquarium in La Jolla, the Old Richland Schoolhouse in San Marcos, the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe, and the San Diego Supercomputing Center.
Fall--Author Tea
A local author is invited to speak about their work and experiences. One year the author tea featured Earlene Fowler, a mystery writer. There was also a quilt show at the Oceanside Public Library Community Room.
