Let us introduce ourselves-
The GEAR UP grant program is an educational, community, and commerce partnership program. Educationally, GEAR UP’s purpose is to create a “college going culture” at San Marcos Middle School, while continuing to provide support services through high school graduation and beyond. From middle school to high school graduation, GEAR UP will work with the community to foster partnerships with local non-profits, community agencies, businesses, Institutions of Higher Education, corporations, and various associations. This foundation will promote academic excellence and college awareness, thereby ensuring more students are not only provided support services, but also prepared to enroll in any post-secondary institution.
GEAR UP’s objectives are met through the completion of APES (Activities, Programs, Events and Services). These include the use of current college going tutors/mentors, field trips to Universities, academic interventions, summer programs, and much more!
Palomar College GEAR UP will promote academic excellence and college and career awareness. GEAR UP will focus on knowledge and academic choices, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) during all 7 years of the program. Please see our website for more information in regards to STEM.
