The SMMS GEAR UP tutors/mentors are young adults who have the ability to demonstrate to GEAR UP students the importance of academic performance, success, and hard work. GEAR UP tutors/mentors are a valuable resource to our program because they provide students with direct support services. These support services are: in class tutoring, mentoring, before and after school tutoring, and weekly activities.
GEAR UP Lunchtime Activities (C-55):
Math Monday: An interactive day to emphasize the importance of Math through the use of various activities.
Tutor Tuesday: A day where students may take advantage of extra help in different subject areas.
Wacky Wednesday: A fun day for students to be wacky and express themselves through various structured games.
Tutor Thursday: A day where students may take advantage of extra help in different subject areas.
Funky Friday: A funky day planned with exciting events to allow students to have an awesome time.
In addition to services previously mentioned, GEAR UP is partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of America after school program to further support students. The Boys& Girls Club of San Marcos is part of a nationwide Movement of community-based, autonomous organizations and Boys& Girls Clubs of America working to help youth of all backgrounds develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. The Club is committed to serving the needs of boys and girls 6 to 18 years of age during the critical hours when they are out of school and away from parental supervision.
The intention of this amazing partnership opportunity is to provide a world-class experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who comes through our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.
The formula for success
