Program description
The GEAR UP Tutoring Program at RMMS consists of local college students tutoring before, during, and after school. All tutors report to various teachers in all subject areas throughout the day to work with certain students assigned by the teacher.
After school GEAR UP works with the YMCA where students are able to work one on one, form small groups, or simply ask questions when help is needed in a homework room. Students after school are provided free snacks as well as fun activities that support physical fitness and character development.
Hours of operations
Tutors are available from:
7:30AM - 3:30PM M-TH
9:45AM - 3:30PM Fridays
The YMCA-GEAR UP after school tutoring lasts from 3:23PM-4:30PM with activities up to 6:00PM.
Transportation from RMMS to LMS may be available upon request. Please call the GEAR UP Office 631-4500 ext. 6186 for more details.
*Special arrangements can be made for tutors to meet with students before school, after school, or during lunch.
Costs
This tutoring program is absolutely free of charge to all eligible GEAR UP Students at Rancho Minerva Middle School. The after school program is free of charge to all RMMS students.
Benefits
Tutoring can be a valuable tool for students seeking more understanding in certain subject areas as well as for students making good grades and are seeking to increase their academic level. The tutoring sessions will give students a chance to finish homework, get answers to questions about their schoolwork outside of normal class times, and learn valuable study skills.
Tutors also can answer many questions for students regarding college life or life in high school. Tutors serve also as mentors and chaperones during many of our cultural and academic field trips. All tutors are AVID certified and are trained on a regular basis on different tutoring methods.
How to sign-up
During the school day students are assigned to tutors by teachers.
**Special arrangements can be made to accommodate students during lunch hours or before school. Please call the GEAR UP Office at 631-4500 ext. 6186 for these requests.
After School Program- Please print out the following pages and submit completed forms to the GEAR UP Office and students may stay after school once forms are submitted.
