Beware of scholarship Scams

·       Don’t pay money to get money

·       Six Signs of a Scam:

1.   “The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back.”

2.   “You can’t get this information anywhere else.”

3.   “We will need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship”.

4.   “We will do all the work for you”.

5.   “The scholarship will cost some money”.

6.   “You’ve been selected” by a national foundation to receive a scholarship or “You’re a finalist” in a contest you never entered”

 

·       Report Scam to the National Fraud Information Center at (800) 876-7060 or by email at SCAMS-L@finaid.org.  You can also contact your state attorney general’s office, the Better Business Bureau or your high school counselor for more assistance.
