The Writing Consultants

The English Department Writing Center is located in room MB-3. Students may arrange to meet with tutors by making an appointment in person at the front desk of the Drop-In Lab or by calling (760) 744-1150, extension 2778.

The Tutorial Center is staffed by specialist Writing Consultants who can help with a wide range of writing situations and problems.

Helpful Suggestions for Students Seeking Assistance.

If you come to MB-3 for help with your writing assignment, please consider the following:

1.) Bring your assignment.

2.) It is best if you can bring the written assignment from your teacher or the notes you took when the assignment was made.

3.) Think about specific ways the Writing Consultant can help you.

4.) A Writing Consultant will be more effective if you tell him/her exactly what your concerns are better topic sentences, fewer fragments, clearer punctuation, more interesting word choices, or other areas that need work.

5.) Realize the Writing Consultant will not write the paper for you.

6.) Writing Consultants can help you shape your paper and make it grammatically correct, but they will not write sentences for you.

7.) Remember the Writing Consultant can help at any stage of the writing process.

8.) You may have trouble generating topics, focusing on a specific point, organizing your support, creating a rough or final draft, polishing the final draft. The Writing Consultant can help in any of these stages of writing.
