Each month (or, more likely, whenever I get around to it) I will feature a cover from a comic book in my collection that I find interesting, important, or just plain funny. Check back regularly to see if I have updated this page. To be safe, you should probably write yourself a reminder wherever you keep such things. Do it now.
I usually go to the vault to find my comic book cover of the month ("month"...yeah, right), but I couldn't pass up on the inaugural issue of series that just started on May 5: I, Zombie, written by Chris Roberson and drawn by Mike Allred. When I first heard of this series at the 2009 Comic-Con, I was on board. The protagonist is Gwen Dylan, a gravedigger who also happens to be a zombie. But a nice zombie. What keeps her nice is that she has to eat brains every month, and rather than feed on the living, she feeds on the recently dead that she comes across at work. The only problem is that when she eats, she absorbs the memories of the deceased, and if they have any unfinished business, she sees to it. But the reason that I'm featuring this book as my cover of the month is for the variant by one of my absolute favorite artists, Darwyn Cooke. I never bother with variants; they seem to be cheap marketing ploy. But when I saw this design in Cooke's patented retro style, I knew that I had to get a copy and post it. If you're a comic book reader, check out this new title. And remember Gwen's motto: "A mind is a terrible thing to taste."
