The San Diego and Imperial Counties Community College Association (SDICCCA) Regional Faculty Internship Program began in 1994 in an effort to recruit, train and place historically under represented interns in classroom teaching and counseling positions. This program underscores the goal of having the community college workforce mirror the state's population by the year 2005. An additional goal of the program is to get the interns on the county's community college campuses where they observe classroom instruction or student counseling for one semester under the guidance of an experienced mentor in preparation for the intern taking over instructional or counseling responsibilities during the second semester.
I am extremely pleased to participate in this program that has already won the California Community College Board of Governors and California State University Board of Trustees Interinstitutional Cooperation Award.
During the month of July 1996, the interns attended bi-weekly sessions in preparation for the academic year. Discussion topics included setting our goals, the importance of networking, instructional techniques, methods for evaluating student potential, and learning strategies employed by students.
Thank you for your interest in the educators of tomorrow.
