English Department Scholarship


The English Department of Palomar College will be offering the Betty Webb and Richard Norlin Memorial Scholarship this spring. The details are as follows:

Amount: varies, but usually $750+ (in the past, multiple scholarships have been awarded)


Who: a current student at Palomar College.


Qualifications: an English major or someone with a strong interest in the major with plans to transfer to a four-year college/university; a GPA of 3.0 or better; completion of English 100.

How to Apply: apply directly to the English Department in the Humanities Building (put in the mail tray of Kevin Kearney) and include the following:

  1. A short letter of intent, explaining who you are and your qualifications. Make sure you include an email so we can contact you.
  2. An essay of at least five hundred words which demonstrates an ability with the language. It may be a new essay or one that was previously submitted for a class here at Palomar.
  3. Recommendations from two Palomar College instructors. One of these must be from an English instructor.
