Transferring?
Application months for transfer to most universities for Fall 2004 are
fast approaching.
- CSU (California State University): October 1 through
November 30. Includes CSU San Marcos and San Diego State and 21 other
campuses. You won’t have a GHOST
of a chance for admission unless you will have 60 transferable units
and CSU-GE certification or IGETC completed by end of Spring 2004. GPA
requirements vary; SDSU and Cal Poly SLO are extremely competitive.

and/or application
- UC (University of California): November 1 through
November 30. Includes UC-San Diego, Berkeley, UCLA,etc.. Nine campuses
now; Merced soon. Best chances for admission are if you have 60 transferable
units and IGETC or TAG (Transfer Admissions Guarantee) requirements
completed by end of Spring 2004. Not to SCARE
you, but a strong GPA is necessary, although the technical minimum is
2.4. See a counselor now!

information and/or application.
Not quite that far along yet? Make sure you’re
following a transfer pattern (IGETC or CSU-GE certification) and look
up lower division requirements for your major (CA public institutions)
via www.assist.org . Get smart and
avoid the last minute HORRORS of
missing requirements. See a counselor! They
come equipped with garlic, silver bullets and wolfbane.

Ask the Whys Guy…
Why can’t I take a course as many times as I want to?
I pay for the classes each time!
Your enrollment fees cover a fraction of the cost of any class. The State
funds the college based on enrolled students (and other WEIRD formulas).
The state also does not want to pay for people to take the same class
over and over again for their enjoyment or if the person never will be
able to pass a course. Thus most courses can be repeated once if an F
or D were earned, or more if the course is technically repeatable (see
catalog), but even then the limit is 4 times. Right now, the computer
system allows you to register, but then might drop you at a later date!
You can petition, but you must have a sound justification. DRC
students with educational limitations in the subject matter have a better
chance if a DRC counselor adds a supporting statement to the petition.
