Learning Disability (LD) assessment is provided as a service to Palomar students...

  • who have a history of learning disabilities and need updating of their records.
  • who have been referred by a counselor or professor.
  • who self-refer because of specific learning concerns.

LD assessment strictly adheres to the guidelines established by the California Community College Chancellor's Office. To begin the process, students must first attend an intake session at DRC to determine if assessment is warranted. The formal testing process includes evaluation of a student's ability, achievement, and information processing. Generally, in addition to preliminary intake sessions, testing is conducted in two or three 2-hour sessions, which are followed by a session in which results are discussed.

The primary purpose of the assessment is to determine if students are eligible for DRC services such as academic advising, extended time on exams, taped text books, or use of adapted computer systems that help with reading and study skills.

For additional information, please contact Sue Norton, LD specialist, at extension 2707 or snorton@palomar.edu.
