Alternate Media Center

What is Alternate Media?

Many students with disabilities find it difficult, if not impossible, to read and understand a standard textbook. Through the Alternate Media Center, textbooks and class materials can be convereted to audio, Braille, large print, or other alternate format.

Who is eligible?

Students who are blind or visually impaired, as well as those with motor impairments and learning disabilities, may qualify for services through the Alternate Media Center.

What do I do to receive the service?

The first step is to determine if you qualify. Your DRC counselor can help you evaluate your needs. An Accommodations Form is completed listing the appropriate accommodations for your specific disability. The next step is to meet with Aaron Holmes. He will go over your request and together you will determine the best way to prepare your materials. Aaron will also discuss your responsibilities in the alternate media process. Planning ahead is essential for a successful semester. Choose your classes early, find out what books you will need and meet with Aaron as soon as possible to discuss your alternate media needs for class materials. The better you plan, the smoother the semester will go.

If you have any further questions or need to schedule an appointment contact Aaron at 760-744-1150 Ext. 2377 or aholmes@palomar.edu.
