UNIVERSITY-WIDE
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
All students whose majors lead to the baccalaureate degree
must fulfill CSUSM's Foreign Language and Computer Literacy requirements. Listed below are Palomar courses that fulfill
these requirements. Please note, however, that all requirements
need not be met before transfer.
Consult the CSUSM catalog for a complete listing of graduation
requirements.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT*
Students planning to transfer to CSU, San Marcos from
Palomar College will be held to a foreign language proficiency requirement for
purposes of graduation. This requirement may be fulfilled in one of the
following ways:
1. Completion of the third level of a college level language (Palomar’s courses numbered 201 or 206) with a grade of “C” or better.
2. Demonstrating Stage 3 proficiency level according to the California Foreign Language Competency Project guidelines. Students should contact the Language Proficiency Assessor at (760) 750-4197 regarding any questions about the requirement or to arrange for proficiency testing.
3. Having successfully received a score of 3 or better on the Advanced Placement Foreign Language Examination.
4. American Sign Language -
American Sign Language may now be used to meet the foreign language requirement
at CSUSM. Students must complete ASL 100, 101, 205 and one culture course
selected from ASL 110 or 115.
*Students with catalog rights at CSUSM prior to Fall 1992
should see a counselor regarding fulfillment of this requirement. Catalog rights are determined by the
academic year a student enters any accredited California two-year or four-year
college and attends at least one
semester or quarter (summer session not included) of each calendar year thereafter.
COMPUTER LITERACY REQUIREMENT
All students must fulfill the CSUSM basic computer
competency requirement by the end of the second semester of attendance. See the CSUSM catalog for the required
competencies that must be demonstrated.
Students may fulfill the requirement in several ways such as:
1. Obtaining a grade of “C” or better in
one of the many approved courses offered at local community colleges. Palomar courses, which meet this
requirement, are CSIS 105, Computer
Concepts and Microcomputer Applications; CSIS 120, Microcomputer Applications; or SPED 40, Adapted Computers for Disabled Students. Any off-campus course taken more than two
years prior to the student’s first semester of attendance at CSUSM will not be
considered for CCR equivalency.
2. Obtaining a grade of C or better in one
of the following CSU, San Marcos courses:
Computer Science 101,
111 or 301
Music 302
Psychology 300
Visual Arts 302
3. Passing the CSU, San Marcos computer
competency examination
Questions about eligibility of a particular course for CCR
equivalency should be referred to the academic advisors or to the Computer
competency Requirement Coordinator at (760) 750-4788.
