Special Testing

 

Non-native English speakers:

 

Students who do not speak, read or write English as their first language or who have recently taken English as a Second Language classes will benefit from having an assessment designed for non-native speakers of English.

 

The ASSET/COMPASS tests offered by the Counseling Department is designed for native speakers and may not accurately measure your proficiency in English. Contact the English as a Second Language (ESL) Department, Room A-17, ext.  2272.

 

Students with Disabilities:

 

Contact our Disability Resource Center (DRC), ext. 2375.

 

Challenges:

 

Students may take the assessment once per year. Placement is valid for two years from date of testing. If a student does not feel she/he has been appropriately placed, she/he may challenge all or part of the assessment. Please contact our Student Access/Assessment Center for procedures.

 

Complaints:

 

If you believe that assessment, orientation, counseling, or any other matriculation procedure is being applied in a discriminatory manner, you may file a complaint to the Dean of Counseling and Matriculation, ext. 2184.
