Computer Lab
The career center lab in San Marcos has 30 multimedia computers.  The lab has Internet access and have several software and database programs.
  • Choices, and Eureka are database programs that provide current information on careers, colleges, and college majors.
  • Please Understand Me is a computerized career assessment "test" that identifies your personality type.
  • Choices and Eureka provide career interest and skill surveys that match you with occupations.
  • Ready-to-Go Resumes is an easy to use resume builder with 16 preformatted styles.
  • College Source is an online database of all the colleges and universities in the US.

 


Resume Writing Tutorial
Online Resume Writing Workshop - a self-guided tutorial with various resume and cover letter examples from Palomar College students.  Upon visiting this site you will see examples of the different types of resumes as well as different cover letters as well.


Library

The Career Center offers an extensive reference library of academic, occupational and job search materials including resume writing, interviewing and networking.  The Career Center library collection is available online using the Palomar College Library's webcat search engine. Directions are listed below.

  • Go to http://daphne.palomar.edu/library/webcat.htm
  • Click on the Webcat icon to search the catalog
  • Enter the subject you are searching for in the Subject box (example: resume)
  • Scroll down and under location, pull down CAREER CTR
  • Click Seach Catalog

Concerning College Catalogs, the Transfer Center has a complete catalog collection of California Community Colleges, Universities of California, California State Universities, and the private colleges and universities in California.

  • FOR  OFF CAMPUS JOBS = Palomar College Career Center receives many job announcements from local companies.  As the career center receive those, they are placed in a job binder.  For the most current list of job openings, visit the career center and look at the job binders 
  • FOR ON CAMPUS JOBS = Most departments that are seeking students advertise through their departments.  The best thing for you to do is to go to a department and see if they have any openings.  For example, the Book Store, Cafeteria, the Wellness Center, the Cashier, Science Department, the Child Career Development Center and others.
  • FOR FEDERAL WORK STUDY STUDENTS  = Please visit the Financial Aid Job Board for job openings on campus.
  • FOR COMPANIES OFFERING JOBS = The career center maintains a job binder and gladly accepts faxes and emails.  Additionally the Student Affairs Office maintains a website as to where they will post employers job announcements.  To talk to our Student Affairs Office call (760)  744-1150 ext 2594 and ask to speak to Marilyn.
