Cooperative Education is a program that involves regularly scheduled employment, giving the student an opportunity to experience theory in practice while developing competencies through supervised training on a job related to his/her occupational or educational objective.
The purpose of the work experience program is to integrate related academic preparation with practical work experience, thereby giving the student a better insight into his/her potential career field.
The student will work with the employer on setting three learning objectives which he/she will accomplish by the end of the semester in which the student is enrolled. Once the learning objectives are approved by a Cooperative Education instructor/coordinator for suitability, the student will be given a Statement of Cooperation.
A Statement of Cooperation is a carbon copy contract which the student, the employer, and the instructor must sign, in agreement that the student will work towards accomplishing the set goals. At the end of the semester, the employer will give the student a suggested grade based on the attainment of the set goals.
This suggested grade, in conjunction with the timely submission of all appropriate paperwork and arrival to all preset appointments will be used to calculate the student's final grade.

To qualify for Cooperative Education you must be working AND have a supervisor who is willing to monitor your progress throughout the semester, to sign your monthly reports verifying the hours you worked, and to speak with a Coop Ed instructor who will come to the jobsite to check up on your progress.
Unfortunately, self employment does not qualify for Cooperative Education.

You should enroll in the number of units that equates to the number of hours you will be able to complete within the timeframe of the semester. See How many hours do I have to work to figure out the number of units you qualify for.
You can repeat CE100, Work Experience and/or CE150, Internship to earn up to 16 units total.
CE110, General Work Experience is not repeatable.
