Meet the Artists
Andrew Elstob,
Trumpet
For over four years, trumpeter Andrew Elstob has established himself
as a professional freelance musician in San Diego. Mr. Elstob has
performed with many groups including Brador Brass Quintet, Westwind
Brass, Seaside Brass, Big Time Operator, State Street Swing, Shades of
Blue Quintet, Orquesta de Baja and The Infinite. Brador Brass Quintet
has traveled to Bolivia in 2002 and most recently finished a 2003 summer
tour to Costa Rica. He also performs with the San Diego-based Latin
group “Orquesta Primo” which performs downtown at venues such as Croces
and Café Sevilla. In August, Mr. Elstob performed Leoncavallo’s
opera, Pagliacci, in Tijuana, Mexico, and most recently performed in
Mexicali, Mexico with world renowned opera superstar, Lucianno
Pavarotti. In May 2003, Mr.Elstob received his Bachelor’s in jazz
studies and currently is working towards a master’s degree in jazz
studies at San Diego State University.
Scott Bolinger,
Guitar
Scott Bolinger grew up in Irvine, California, and now lives in San
Diego as a professional guitarist. Mr. Bolinger has played the guitar
for over eight years and has established himself to be a well-respected
jazz artist. Musicians such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Peter
Bernstein and Jim Hall have influenced Scott’s style of playing. Mr.
Bolinger has studied with guitarist Steve Cardenas and the great
trumpeter of San Diego, Gilbert Castellanos. Mr. Bolinger has attended a
master class given by Bobby Shew, one of the great premier trumpeters of
our era. Currently, Mr. Bolinger can be seen performing jazz at
Dizzy’s, Harrahs, and Smith Recital Hall.
Justin Grinnell,
Bass
Justin Grinnell, A California native, has been studying and
performing jazz in San Diego for the last four years. In 1994, Mr.
Grinnell began playing the electric bass in local rock bands. In 1999,
he decided to study jazz at San Diego State University and consequently
began to focus his attention on the upright bass. At SDSU, Mr. Grinnell
received instruction from Gunner Biggs and Rick Helzer. Besides
performing in the Hawaii International Jazz Festival, Mr. Grinnell has
also performed in Central America with the jazz trio, “Jazz Express.”
Mr. Grinnell has become a familiar face in many local San Diego venues
such as the Aviara Four Seasons, Dizzy’s and Croces
Jazz Bar. Since the completion of his bachelors Degree in Jazz
Studies, Mr. Grinnell has been readmitted to SDSU as a Graduate student.
Dave Pschaida,
Drums
Dave Pschaida began playing the drums at age 12 and studied privately
from Kirk Hoffman for six years. Mr. Pschaida played percussion in the
All County Honor Band for two years. Mr. Pschaida is a free lance
musician around San Diego playing jazz casuals, and orchestras. Mr.
Pschaida performs with an eleven piece funk band “Round Town,” seven
piece Motown band, “The Notchbacks”, the jazz organ trio “Spoon Fed
Elephant” and the “Cross Roads.” Between 1997 and 2003, Mr. Pschaida has
studied and performed on drums at Mesa College, Palomar College, and San
Diego State University. Mr. Pschaida has played with many top performers
of our time including the legendary Herbie Mann, Don Menza, Bobby Shew,
and Mark Vinci.
