Learning Communities

Our learning communities are
designed to deliver linked courses that create
communities of learners who develop a deeper
commitment to learning and achieve greater academic success than students who enroll in
“stand-alone” courses. In addition, because
linked faculty teach the same students, they are
able to maximize student achievement by sharing
course goals, content, and activities. While learning
communities have resulted in greater student achievement,
they have also proved essential in retaining
students who might otherwise drop out of college
after a semester or two. Learning community
students enjoy the connection made with their
peers, feel their faculty care for them as
individuals, and develop leadership,
problem-solving, and strong communication skills
while they continue their college studies
with the confidence, optimism, and dedication
they need to fulfill their academic
potential.
Learning communities also provide
opportunities for faculty development through
collaborative teaching with other faculty members.
Faculty are excited about opportunities to team-teach, plan
with faculty members from other disciplines, and
expand their knowledge and understanding of
successful teaching styles, techniques, and
methods.
Already we are hearing from the
students how much they appreciate the extra tutorial help, and the sense of community they
have developed among themselves is apparent.
We welcome you to partner with us as learning
communities are the pathway to student success.
