CAADAC Written Exam Prep Workshop
with Dr. John Herdman Friday, Nov. 14th 2-6m

The Palomar College Alcohol and Other Drug Studies program was granted funding under the Carl Perkins Plan submitted by Dean Wilma Owens to sponsor a CAADAC written exam prep workshop. The workshop will be held from 2-6pm on November 14, 2008. The workshop is free and will include a study guide, testing techniques, and practice quizzes of relevant material. Presenter: Dr. John Herdman, Ph.D.

John Herdman, Ph. D., LADC is a licensed psychologist, a licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor, and a certified school psychologist. Dr. Herdman is the author of The 12 Core Functions of the Substance Abuse Counselor.

He has over 34 years of school, military, counseling, and consulting experience. Dr. Herdman has conducted trainings nationally and internationally on a variety of topics. He is owner and Clinical Director of Parallels, an out- patient substance abuse and mental health treatment agency in Lincoln, Nebraska and he is currently splitting his time between his Nebraska practice and work as the Workforce Development Coordinator for Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where he is also an instructor.

AODS Advisory Board

 



The Palomar College Alcohol and Other Drug Studies Advisory Board met on October 24, 2008 from 1 - 4pm. The meeting was facilitated by program coordinator, Maria Miller. Members of the 2008-09 AODS Board include Jo Anne Lesser, Counseling Services, Jim Fent, A Better Tomorrow, Judi Johnson, North County Center for Change - Drug Court, David Grey, Casa Palmera, and Barbara Williams, Faculty Emeritus. The group participated in a process called, Develop a Curriculum, which Dean Wilma Owens facilitated. The end product of the DACUM was an occupational profile detailing skills, knowledge, work behaviors and future trends for Substance Abuse Counselor.
