We started 4 semesters ago by offering 2 online classes. Now, with the coming Fall semester, we will be offering over 50 classes online.  We don't claim to have all, or even most, of the answers, but we have identified 7 elements which we think account for our growth and the success we have enjoyed so far:

  • A Supportive Administration
  • An organizational interface between the faculty, students and the technology: the Academic Technology Group
  • Well established computing standards
  • An effective course management tool
  • A plan to train and support faculty
  • A plan to provide technical support to the online college
  • An adept faculty, willing to rethink the teaching/learning environment with the constraints and advantages of the online experience in mind.

The interviews in this presentation speak to these points by those who have done the work.
