Calling All Media...

Time is running out for professors to bring media to Academic Technology offices for re-encoding to our new streaming technology.  If you have media you want streamed for use in the spring 2011 semester bring it to our offices, room LL-108 on the ground floor of the San Marcos campus library, along with TEACH Act, Fair Use, or By Permission documentation, so that we can place it in our already very substantial queue.  If you are using streamed media and it has not already been re-encoded it will stop working as of the end of this calendar year.  Read more...

The New Blackboard

We will be "going live" with Blackboard Learn 9.1 beginning in the spring semester of 2011.  That's just three short months away.  This will not be an ordinary version upgrade.  We will be starting out on a completely new hardware platform, which means that professors will need special instructions on migrating Blackboard 8 course content to Blackboard 9.  That's what our November "New to Nine," and January winter tech camp will be all about.  Find out more on our training page.  There are some wonderful new Web 2.0 features in Blackboard 9, but you will definitely need some help getting started with them.  Sign-up for training through the PD office asap, or give our techs a call at ext. 2862.

To watch how-to videos, read other instructional materials,or interact with other educators using version 9.1, visit the Blackboard On-Demand Learning Center.

A New Office 2010

Office 2010 is here and it is significantly new and improved.  We have gathered a number of What's New materials for you to evaluate in the Blackboard Academic Technology Training Course in which all faculty and staff are pre-enrolled.  Find it in the Workshops > Teaching and Learning Strategies area.  Office 2010 will be installed on District computers by request to the IS helpdesk (ext. 2140 or helpdesk@palomar.edu).  The Pro Plus version is available for purchase from the FCCC for $45, which is a significant savings.
