Palomar College supports
both Windows media and Real media video
standards. If you are having a problem
playing a video through a college web site,
use the following information to diagnose or
solve the problem.
How to Play
the Videos
To play Palomar College videos, you will
need the Windows media player ver. 7 or
above, or the Real Player, version 8 or
above. The current versions of the Windows
media player and the Real media player will
work fine. If you do not have one of these
players, or do not have the latest version,
you can obtain them free by clicking one of
the following links.

Often times
you will note that video links are supplied
for both "broadband" and "modem" speeds.
Choose the broadband link if you are on
campus (or another college campus), or have
DSL or cable modem access to the Internet,
such as through Cox, Southwest or Daniels
cable services. Choose the modem link if you
are accessing the Internet over a 56K
dial-up modem. Modem speeds require that the
video picture be smaller and of a lesser
quality than can be achieved at broadband
speeds.
Video for Mac. If you wish
to play video on your Mac, and do not have a
copy of the Windows media player for Mac
(which is no longer produced--the last
version was version 9 for Mac) you must
download and install the free
Windows media components for QuickTime
from Flip4Mac.

Pop-up Blockers. If a video
player does not appear when you click a
video link, it may be because you have a
pop-up blocker enabled that is preventing
it.
Click here for help on temporarily
disabling pop-up blockers.
Web captioning. Many Palomar
College videos are captioned for the web.
By default, captioning appears automatically
in the Real player, but needs to be turned
on in the Windows media player.
Click
here for instructions on turning on
captioning for the Windows media player.
Help is Available!
Before calling us for help, try using the
version supplied for both video players. At
times, one video server is quite busy and
cannot immediately service your request.
Trying the other format may work.
If you have obtained and installed the
appropriate media players, but are having
