WRESTLING COACHES

Head Coach  Byron Campbell

Having a successful wrestling career at Poway High School, Byron attended Palomar where he was the team captain and State Champion on Palomar's 1992 California Community College State Championship team. After Palomar went on to wrestle three years at Fresno State University and was a two time WAC finalist and a WAC Champion in 1996. Byron returned to Palomar in 1998 as an assistant coach and took over as head coach in 2005.

Assistant Coach  Ross O'Briant

Currently the Head Coach at Carlsbad high School, Ross brings over 100 dual meet victories in his coaching career to Palomar. He has been successful on all levels, as a wrestler and a coach. Was a member of Poway High School's first state championship team in 1986, and continued coaching under the direction of Wayne Branstetter for over ten years. Ross left the Poway School District with a record of 82-0 for both the middle schools and freshmen teams. Coach of the year in 2004 at Kearny High School; Ross has coached 15 individual S.D.Section Masters Champions.
 

 

 

Assistant Coach  Brody Barrios

Brody placed second at the National High School Championships, and was a two-time California High School State Champion and All-American. He was a three-time league champion, three-time CIF-San Diego Section champion, three-time CIF-San Diego Section Masters champion, and third in state as a sophomore. Brody posted a 57-2 record his senior year, and 47-2 as a junior. Brody graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in kinesiology where he competed for the mustangs all four years.
