Ronnie Mancao,
a former professional tennis tour player and coach, club
director and collegiate coach, is in his 13th
season as the men’s head tennis coach and in his
8th
season as the women’s head tennis coach.
During a 10 year
period (1983-1992) as MiraCosta College men’s head tennis
coach, Mancao directed the Spartans to three Pacific Coast
Conference Championships. He logged a 120-80 overall
won-loss record with the Spartans. In 1987 he was selected
Coach of the Year by the United States Tennis Association
(San Diego District).
Coach Mancao’s
tenure with Palomar College began in 1996 (1996-present)
directing the men’s team to four Pacific Coast Conference
Championships. He has logged a 146-61-2 overall
won-loss-tie record with the men Comets. Mancao was
selected PCC Coach of the Year in 1998, 1999, 2002, and
2004. In 2004 Coach Mancao also received the prestigious
PCC All Sport Coach of the Year Award.
In 2001
(2001-present) Coach Mancao became head women’s tennis coach
taking over from the retiring legendary Coach Nan Haugen.
She was one of the most successful community college women’s
tennis coaches in the state. Coach Mancao has continued the
women’s winning tradition with a 2005
and 2007 PCC Championships. He
has logged a 73-35 overall won-loss record with the women
Comets. In 2005 and 2007 Coach Mancao was selected PCC Coach of the
Year.
Mancao received his
B.A. and M.A. degrees in Physical Education, specializing in
Sport Psychology-Motor Learning from San Diego State
University. He also received his A.A. degree in Liberal
Arts from Golden West College.
Coach Mancao, a
certified charter member (1976-present) of the United States
Professional Tennis Registry is a former Vice-president
(Southern California Region) of the association. He is also
a former national tester and workshop leader for the USPTR.
Currently, Mancao
is the Assistant Athletic Director to John Woods (Athletic
Director) and also is an Associate Professor in the Health
and Physical Education Department.

Tyler Hayden

Tyler Hayden, a
tennis club teaching professional, is in his 4th season as
the assistant men and women's tennis coach.
Coach Hayden
played for the Comets on two PCC Championship teams in 1998
and 2002. He earned All Conference Singles and Doubles
honors as a Comet player before transferring to BYU and
participated on the men's tennis team.
Hayden received
his B.A. degree from BYU in Portuguese
and his M.A. degree in Physical Education
from Azusa Pacific University.
