Comets win, play home opener

Palomar College, coming off a 31-24 victory at Riverside Community College on Saturday night, will open its home football season against Long Beach City College at 1 p.m. Saturday at Escondido High School's Wilson Stadium

The Comets fell behind RCC 24-7, then scored 24 unanswered points to hand the Tigers their first loss as freshman quarterback Andy Goodenough hit on 30 of 40 pass attempts (no interceptions) for 369 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman receiver Jonathan Jones caught nine passes for 100 yards.

Palomar's scoring came on a 7-yard touchdown run by Brandon Sanchez, a 19-yard pass from Goodenough to Tewaun Farris, a 50-yard pass play from Goodenough to Keiki Misipeka, a 6-yard pass from Goodenough to Seth Deyo, Cesar Hernandez' 20-yard field goal and four Hernandez PAT kicks.

Palomar outscored RCC in the secoind half 17-0. The Comets have outscored their two opponents in the second half 32-0.

Long Beach will enter Saturday's game 2-0 after beating Orange Coast on Saturday 17-7.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live by KKSM-1320 AM radio.
