Palomar coach 4th in Half Marathon

Milena Glusac, Palomar College's new women's cross country coach, placed fourth in the America's Finest City Half Marathon on Saturday in San Diego.

She was the first American female finisher, clocking a 1 hour, 14 minutes, 33 seconds for the 13.1-mile course. Christina Pomacu of Romania won the race in an AFC record 1:10:44.Svetlana Zakharova placed second.

Glusac, a seven-time NCAA Division I All-American at the University of Oregon in track and cross country, was named the Comets' new coach last month.

Glusac, a Fallbrook High School graduate who won two California State High School cross country championships and three California State High School track titles, recently competed in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in the 5000-meter run. She also competed in the 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 5000.

She was among the leaders in Saturday's race, which drew 4,445 runners, until slowed by a leg cramp during the 10th mile.
