| 106 Comets begin
football drills Palomar
College, a winner of three National Community
College football championships in the past nine
seasons, began football drills for the 2000
season Tuesday morning.
Coach Tom Craft greeted 106
players.
The Comets will begin drills in
pads Friday, will scrimmage at San Diego Mesa at
1 p.m. Sept. 1, and will kick off the 2000 season
at Cerritos at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.
Palomar won the Mission
Conference championship last season, going 8-3,
and was ranked No. 21 in the Nation by the JC
Grid-Wire.
The Comets tied Northeastern
Oklahoma A&M for the 1991 National
championship, won the 1993 National title
outright and tied Butler County Community College
of El Dorado, Kan., for the 1998 National
championship.
Palomar has played in 10 bowl
games since 1989, winning nine of them.
