Three more
former Palomar College players have signed
contracts with National Football League teams,
bringing the list of ex-Comets who recently
signed NFL free-agent contracts to four.
Center Matt ONeal, who played every
offensive down for Oklahoma the last two seasons
and was a first-team All-Big 12 selection this
past fall by the Associated Press, signed with
the Atlanta Falcons. ONeal, a product of
San Dieguito High School, played for the Comets
in 1996 and 1997 and was a JC Grid-Wire
first-team All-America selection.
Keith Miller, a starting linebacker for the
University of California and Defensive Co-Most
Valuable Player in the Blue-Gray game, signed
with the Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams.
Miller, a Mt. Carmel High graduate, played for
Palomar in 1995 and 1996. He played two seasons
for the Golden Bears, sandwiched around an injury
redshirt season.
Pita Elisara, a two-year starting offensive
tackle for the University of Indiana, signed with
the New York Giants. Elisara, out of Tafuna High
School in American Samoa, played for the Comets
in 1996 and 1997.
Earlier, wide receiver Kevin Swayne signed with
the San Diego Chargers. Swayne played for Palomar
in 1992 and for the Comets National
Champion 1993 team, is a Banning High School
product. After Palomar, he played for Wayne State
University in Nebraska and spent the 1999 season
playing for the Iowa Barnstormers in the Arena
League.
