| Comets stun El Camino,
play Mt. SAC Palomar
rocked El Camino College, ranked No. 5 in the
Nation by the J.C. Grid-Wire, 37-20 Saturday
night in Torrance and will return home to
Escondido High School's Wilson Stadium to face
Mt. San Antonio at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Comets (3-1) dominated
Saturday night's game. They led El Camino 30-6
and apparently were driving for another touchdown
at the Warriors' 7-yard line when they fumbled
the ball away. El Camino then came back to make
the final score a little closer.
Palomar held El Camino to 25
yards rushing. Meanwhile, Josh Galea'i rushed for
112 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries for
the Comets. Brandon Sanchez also rushed for 112
yards on 22 carries and scored two TD's. All
this, after starting RB Keidi Misipeka went down
with a foot injury.
Freshman quarterback Andy
Goodenough was 17-for-25 passing for 194 yards
for Palomar. Goodenough has yet to be intercepted
this season. Freshman slot receiver Se'e Poumele
caught nine passes for 74 yards and also returned
a punt 29 yards to set up a touchdown.
Freshman defensive end Andrew
Wojcik had 10 tackles (four unassisted), a sack
and a tackle for a loss for the Comets.
Cornerback Jeff Jackson, safety Nehemiah Brunson
and freshman corner David Dixon each had an
interception against El Camino quarterback Robert
Hodge, a preseason JC Grid-Wire All-American
first-team selection.
Palomar was ranked No. 17 in
the Nation entering the game.
Mt. SAC, this week's opponent,
was No. 4 in the Nation in last week's Grid-Wire
rankings, but the Mounties were upset by Orange
Coast on Saturday night 26-25. The Comets (1991,
1993, 1998) and the Mounties (1997) have won four
National championships between them in the last
nine seasons.
Saturday's game against Mt. SAC
will be broadcast live by KKSM-1320 AM radio.
