| Jonas Crawford took over as head coach in 2002,
only the second head coach in the last 33 years. Crawford, a
former Western State Conference champion at
Cuesta College, the San Luis Obispo County Amateur Champion in
1992 and a graduate of San Diego State University. He earned his
Masters Degree in Physical Education at Azusa Pacific University
last year.
Crawford took over one of the nation's premier
community college programs. Former Comet and 1977
State Community College Champion Mark Wiebe plays
on the PGA Tour. Scott Oxandaboure, the 2001
State Community College Champion, played at USC. Oxandaboure placed fourth in the 2002 Pac-10
Conference Tournament in leading the Trojans to
the conference championship. Devon Heid, a
Palomar teammate of Oxandaboure, played at
Brigham Young after placing fourth in the 2002
Mountain West Conference Tournament. John Gray won
the Southern California Championship, while leading his team to
victory as well. Gray earned a scholarship to play golf at
San Diego State University.
