PERSONAL: Born Aug. 14, 1988, at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside. ... Son of Oceanside High School head football coach John Carroll and Peggy Carroll. ... Has two brothers, Tom (23) and Jackson (15). ... John Carroll, who has coached the Pirates to seven CIF-San Diego Section championships and the 2007 California state Division II title, is a former Palomar assistant coach. ... Tom Carroll is an-ex Palomar player.

2008 SEASON: Started six games at quarterback as a red-shirt freshman. ... Completed  56-of-107 pass attempts (52.3 completion percentage) for 627 yards and eight touchdowns over the first seven games while being victimized in several games by dropped balls. ...  Also had a rushing TD. ... Rushed for 137 yards and 88 net yards, with a long run of 39 yards, while accumulating 715 yards in total offense. ... Was 7-for-15 passing for 74 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-19 victory over Southwestern in the first game on Sept. 6. Also rushed for seven yards on three carries. ... Was 9-for-17 passing for 54 yards and rushed twice for 16 yards before exiting the game just before halftime with a bruised hand in a 16-0 win over Victor Valley on Sept. 13. ... Had a breakout game in a 37-17 victory over San Diego Mesa on Sept. 20 with three touchdowns, all in the first half to guide the Comets to a  30-3 halftime lead -- two on passes and the other on a run.  ... Was 11-for-17 for 200 passing yards vs. the Olympians. ... Came up big against College of the Desert as the Comets won a battle of unbeatens 47-41 in four overtimeson Sept. 27, handing the Roadrunners their first regular-season loss since the 2006 season. Was 13-for-17 passing in the game for 184 yards and four touchdowns, including TD aerials in the first and third overtimes. Set up his own touchdown pass to Tyler Lavaia in the first OT with a 13-yard run on a keeper down to the 12-yard line on the previous play. ... Broke off a 39-yard run on the first play of the game vs. Grossmont on Oct. 4.

2007 SEASON: Medical red-shirt at Palomar

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Was Avocado League Offensive Player of the Year as a senior and played in the Alex Spanos All-Star Classic. ... Threw for 2,392 yards and 22 touchdowns as he helped lead Oceanside to the 2006 CIF-San Diego Section Division I championship. ... Passed for 318 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-10 victory over La Costa Canyon on Sept. 7. ... Also topped the 300-yard mark with 303 yards and two TDs vs. Torrey Pines on Oct. 5. ... Threw four touchdown passes in a 49-0 win over Fallbrook on Oct. 26.

ACADEMICS: Undecided major. ... Had a 3.5 high school grade-point average and currently carries a 3.7 GPA at Palomar.
