2002
SEASON: Missed
several weeks due to an early injury. ... In his
first start since the early season, threw 4 1/3
innings in a victory over San Diego Mesa on March
14, giving up one earned run. ... Threw 10
innings for the week ending April 20, also giving
up only one earned run. ... Pitched three innings
vs. Mesa in relief on April 16 and started and
threw seven strong innings vs. Grossmont on April
20. ... Gave up two runs in that game, but both
were unearned. ... Came back on April 27 to
strike out 12 batters in five innings vs. San
Diego City College. ... Topped off the regular
season by pitching 3 1/3 innings of no-hit,
shutout relief ball in a 5-3 victory on the road
against Southwestern on May 2. ... Finished the
regular season with a 4.14 earned run average,
but had a 2.84 regular-season ERA in April and
May. ... Struck out 40 batters in 44 2/3 innings.
... In his most impressive performance prior to
the injury, he threw five innings of three-hit
ball, giving up only one earned run, against
College of the Siskiyous on Feb. 14. ... Also was
utilized in center field and at designated
hitter.
2002
POSTSEASON:
Started the Comets' Southern California
Regional opener against Glendale on May 10 at
Casey Stengel Field in Glendale, but came out in
the fourth inning and was tagged with the loss.
... Pitched two shutout innings against the
Vaqueros, the first and the third.
HIGH
SCHOOL: Played
for former Palomar and San Diego State star and
ex-Angels minor leaguer Billy Dunckel at Valley
Center. Attended Orange Glen as a freshman and
Valley Center for three years. ... Was first-team
All-Valley League, first-team All-North County
and second-team All-CIF. Also was named to the
All-State medium schools team by Cal High Sports.
... Batted .420 as a senior with four home runs
and 35 RBIs. ... Also went 8-3 as a pitcher with
a 1.63 ERA and 66 strikeouts. ... Helped lead the
Jaguarsto back-to-back Valley League titles and
played in the 2001 Jack Taylor Memorial All-Star
Game.
