SEASON: Came
back from a hand injury sustained in a
non-baseball accident to win the starting first
base job and batted .323 in 31 games, 29 as a
starter. ... Hit a long two-run home run over the
rightfield fence and screen at Myers Field, the
first HR of his community college career, to help
key a five-run eighth-inning rally that carried
the Comets to a 7-4 victory over San Diego Mesa
on March 14. ... Had a multiple-hit game in his
first community college start on Feb. 2, going
3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a 8-4 victory
over Canada College of Redwood City in the
Palomar Invitational. ... Also has had
multiple-hit games against San Diego Mesa on Feb.
26, against Southwestern on March 5 when he went
3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI, March 21
against eventual conference champion Grossmont,
March 26 against Glendale when he again had three
hits, April 4 against Southwestern, April 9 vs.
Imperial Valley when he drove in the only two
runs of the game, April 11 against Imperial
Valley when he went 3-for-4 and April 23 when he
went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs vs. Grossmont.
... Had an outstanding defensive day at first
base March 23 in an 8-7 victory over San Diego
City College and played solid and sometimes
spectacular defense for the Comets all season
long.
2002
POSTSEASON:
Went 1-for-3 and had a big day at first
base defensively in the Comets' opener against
Glendale in the Southern California Regionals May
10 at Casey Stengel Field in Glendale. ...
Started two of Palomar's three games in the
Regionals at first base.
HIGH
SCHOOL: Team
captain for two seasons at Oceanside High School,
where he started for three years on the varsity
and helped lead the Pirates to an appearance in
the CIF-San Diego Section Division II
championship game. ... Was an All-Valley League
selection as a senior. ... Batted .250 with one
home run and 10 RBIs as a sophomore; .365 wity 13
RBIs as a junior and .305 with three homers and
28 RBIs as a senior ... Played in the Jack Taylor
San Diego County High School All-Star Game after
his senior season. ... Made the honor roll every
semester at Oceanside High and scored 1140 on his
SAT test.
