Drafted in the 31st round of the June 2001 draft by the Kansas City Royals and signed with the Royals

HIGH SCHOOL: Batted .457 as a senior at Santana with 16 home runs, which tied him for fourth all-time on the California high school HR list. ... Also drove in 48 runs during the season and and scored 39 runs. ... This came after an outstanding junior season when Guzman batted .365 with seven homers. ... Was an All-CIF-San Diego Section selection as a senior and also was a first-team All-East County pick by Eastcountysports.com. ... Was MVP on the Santana team that won the Grossmont League Northern Division. ... Also was first-team All-Grossmont Conference and, after the season, played for the Southern California All-Stars in their series against the Northern California All-Stars. ... After that, played for the California All-Stars in the National All-Star Tournament in Oklahoma. ... Named to the AAU World Series All-Tournament Team as well as the Nartional Junior Olympics All-Tournament team.

2001 SEASON: Was Palomar's third-leading hitter (.325). ... Selected to the All-Pacific Coast Conference first team by conference coaches. ... Led the conference on the season in doubles (23) and was second in RBIs with 42, one back of conference MVP Fernando Cortez of Grossmont. ... Hit for the cyle in a 17-3 victory at Imperial Valley on March 14, going 4-for-6 with eight RBIs. Singled to drive in a run in the first inning, tripled to drive in two runs in the sixth, doubled to drive in two runs in the eighth, then slugged a three-run homer in the top of the ninth. ... He also had a huge game on Feb. 17, when he went 4-for-5 with a homer, three doubles and three RBIs to lead the Comets to a 16-15 win over College of the Siskiyous. ... Also has had multipl-hit games vs. Los Angeles Pierce on Feb. 4, Irvine Valley on Feb. 16, San Diego City College on March 2, Southwestern on March 8, San Diego City again on March 15, Grossmont on March 24, Imperial Valley on March 29, Imperial Valley again on March 31, Southwestern on April 3, Southwestern again on April 5 and Golden West on April 12 and San Bernardino Valley in the Southern California Regionals on May 12.

2001 SEASON: Doubled to drive in two runs May 11 in a Southern California Regional game against Cypress. The following day, he went 2-for-4 and walked in a Regional game vs. San Bernardino Valley.
