PERSONAL: Born Feb. 27, 1989 at Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside. ... Son of Armando and Maria Martinez. ... Has two brothers, David (15) and Gabriel (18).

ACADEMICS: Carried a 2.6 grade-point average at Vista High. ... Fire Science major at Palomar.

2009 SEASON: All-Pacific Coast Conference honorable mention. ... Battied appearing in 38 games and starting 21. ... Hit .306 in 19 Pacific Coast Conference games. ... Went 2-for-4 with a double in a 3-2 win over Fullerton on Feb.  5. ... Was 2-for-4, homered, drove in three runs and stole a base in a 6-0 win at College of the Desert on Feb. 10. ... Went 2-for-3, drove in two runs and stole a base in a 22-2 rout of Rio Hondo on the road on Feb. 14. ... Was 2-for-4 as the Comets won 3-1 at Desert on Feb.17. ... Was 2-for-5 as Palomar went on the road and knocked off Southwestern, last season's state runner-up, 5-3 on Feb. 28. ... Helped lift the Comets to a 10-6 win over the Jaguars, who came into the game ranked No. 1 in Southern California, by going 4-for-5 with two RBIs on March 24 at Southwestern. ... Was 2-for-4 and drove in a run as Palomar, ranked No. 3 in Southern California, knocked off No. 4 Grossmont 5-4 in 10 innings on March 28 to take over undisputed first place in the conference from the Griffins. ... Had a double in a 10-7 win at Grossmont on March 28 as the Comets opened up a two-game lead in the conference race. ... Went 2-for-3, doubled and scored Palomar's first run as the Comets locked up an undisputed conference championship by beating Southwestern 4-2 at Myers Field on April 25. ... Went 2-for-4 with a double on May 9 as the Comets downed Citrus 5-2 to sweep their best-of-3 series with the Owls to begin Southern California Regional play. ... Contributed a double in a 5-0 win over Mt. SAC to begin the Palomar Super Regional on May 15.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Played four seasons of varsity baseball under coach Rick Lepire, a former Palomar pitching coach, at Vista High School. ... Was second-team All-Avocado League as a junior in 2006, first-team as a senior in 2007, second-team All-CIF San Diego Section in 2006 and was selected to the North County Times' All-North County team as a senior.
