2006 SEASON: Being recruited by Coastal Carolina, which has been in and out of the nation's Top 25 teams in Division I this season, Kansas State and Abilene Christian. ... Made a sudden jump into the June 2006 professional draft picture when a Coastal Carolina coach caught him on a Stalker radar gun at 94 miles per hour and 93 miles per hour in back-to-back closing appearances late in the season. ... Was 1-0 with 3 saves and a 3.29 earned run average during the regular season with 14 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings. ... Finished with an ERA of 1.04 in 8 2/3 innings in Pacific Coast Conference play. ... Pitched the ninth inning of the Comets' 10-1 win over Sacramento City College, the No. 2-ranked team in Southern California, on Feb. 4, retiring the side in order on a groundball out and back-to-back strikeouts. ... Pitched a scoreless, hitless inning in relief in a 12-1 win at Mt. San Jacinto on Feb. 23, notching 2 strikeouts. ... Combined with Nick Vincent, Ricky Norton and Jeff Ibarra to throw a 1-hitter in a 12-1 win over Imperial Valley on March 9. Threw the ninth inning against the Arabs, striking out the side. ... Came in to retire IVC's Gustavo Gonzalez, who had doubled, singled twice and driven in 4 runs earlier in the game, for the final out as the Comets won 17-13 on the road on March 17. ... Picked up his second save on April 11, pitching a shutout relief inning in a 4-2 win over Orange Coast in a battle of 2005 State Final Four teams. ... Came back with another scoreless ninth inning April 29 as the Comets clinched at least a tie for the conference championship, beating visiting San Diego City College 10-3. ... Came back with another scoreless inning in relief March 10 in a 10-1 win over Southwestern. ...Pitched 1 2/3 innings of hitless, shutout relief in a 5-3 win over Orange Empire Conference leader Orange Coast on March 21. ... Pitched a scoreless ninth inning in relief April 5 win an 11-4 win over Grossmont on April 5. ... Threw 3 innings of 2-hit shutout ball in relief to record his first community college victory on May 3 as the Comets won 19-4 on the road vs. Imperial Valley Southern California Regionals Round 1 — Threw 2/3 of an inning of scoreless relief in the Comets' 7-4, 11-inning Southern California Regional victory over Santa Barbara City College on May 15. State Final Four — Pitched 3/2 innings in relief in Palomar's loss to Santa Rosa in the State Championship Game on May 30 as the Bear Cubs won their first state title in 53 years and the Comets finished as state runners-up.
