2005 SEASON: Finished the season 3-2 with 4 saves and an ERA of 0.81 for for 22 1/3 innings as the Comets became the first San Digo County team to reach the State Championship game in 31 years. ... Four and played a major role in the Comets' Super Regionals championship. ... Had an ERA of 0.00, a 2-0 record and 3 saves for 9 innings pitched in the Pacific Coast Conference. ... Retired Ventura 1-2-3 to record his first college save on Feb. 3 in Palomar's season-opening 5-3 win over Ventura. ... Shut out Mt. San Jacinto inthe ninth inning Feb. 15 in a game the Comets won 6-2. ... Recorded his first community college win on March 1, throwing 1-hit, scoreless ball over the last 2 innings of a 5-4 victory over San DiegoCity College,striking out 4 and walking 0. ... Recorded his second win in relief March 9 as the Comets came back to beat Grossmont 8-7 with 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth. ... Notched his second save on March 17, pitching 2 innings of scoreless, 1-hit ball in a 7-2 win over San Diego City College. ... Pitched a scoreless ninth inning in a 5-3 win over San Diego Mesa on March 29, picking up his third save. ... Recorded save No. 4 on April 2 when he pitched the final 1 1/3 innings in a 10-8 win vs. Grossmont. ... Retired the side in order in top top of the ninth in a 13-3 win over San Diego City College on April 9. ... Struck out 2 batters and pitched a scoreless ninth inning as the Comets beat second-place Southwestern 16-1 on April 12. Super Regionals — Threw 8-plus innings of 4-hit shutout ball, striking out 8, to give the Comets a 5-0 win over Rio Hondo in an elimination game on May 27. This came after Cueva had thrown only 12 1/3 innings in the previous 38 games. His performance set the stage for Palomar's 2 wins the following day that put them in the State Final Four for the first time ever. State Final Fou — Started and itched 2 1/3 innings vs. Santa Rosa on May 30. Took only his second loss of the season as the Bear Cubs won 5-1 to force an extra game in the double-elimination tournament. Santa Rosa won the second game to clinch its first State title in 53 years and relegate the Comets to a State runner-up finish.
