Recruiting information -
March 2006
Hello Student Athletes:
Spring break begins next week (March 20-24)
and when we return we will be beginning our late-start basketball
classes from 12 noon until 2pm Monday-Thursday in the gym until the
semester ends.
Recruiting is in full swing. We
currently have some talented student athletes committed to Palomar
College for the 2006-07 season. We also have some outstanding
returning players that will be keys to our success.
Coach Jennum and I have talked with
some of you on the phone, or in our office and many of you have been
in for a campus visit. We are encouraged by the potential we
see in our returning players as well as our new recruits. We want
you to be excited about continuing your education and your
basketball careers at Palomar College.
We were the
Pacific Coast Conference Champions in 2001, 2003, and 2004.
We finished the Pacific Coast Conference in second place this season
and are looking forward to fighting for the championship next
season. We truly believe with your
dedication and commitment we will have the ability to earn our
fourth championship in the 2006-07 season. It will take hours of
hard work both in the classroom and on the court but you have the
potential for success here at Palomar College.
I am going to give
you a brief list of important items that should help in your
transition. I know some of you have already taken care of some of
these items but this is just a general list that will help make sure
no one gets lost in the process.
-
Please email
us back or call
760-744-1150 ext 2526 and let us know that you really
want to be a part of our program. It is a different
experience compared to high school but your commitment will
dictate your destiny. Please email us your home number or cell number
and your home address so we
can reach you directly.
-
Go on the
Palomar College web page at
www.palomar.edu and submit your online application.
Be sure you check the box for
summer enrollment.
-
You will be
given an identification number and a Palomar College email
account. You must remember your ID number and password. You will have to check your Palomar College email
account because that is what the college uses to distribute
important information to students.
-
Make sure you
check the box for summer registration because everyone needs to
enroll in the summer basketball class.
-
The
2006 summer basketball class
enrollment is very important and is run basically
like an open gym with individual skill work and some games. Everyone needs to be enrolled to be
able to be in the gym. The class is
PE 166 Section # 50483 and it is held on Tuesday evenings 6:00
to 9:50pm. The class begins
June 20 and ends August 8, 2006.
-
Take your
assessment/placement tests. You have to have them to get into
the Math and English courses. You can check with your high
school counselor and if it is not too late you can take them at
the high school. If
your high school assessments have already been given - you can
take the test on the Palomar College campus.
-
Plan to see
our academic-athletic advisors for your educational plan. Steve
White is at ext. 3052 and Wendy Homuth is at ext 2358. It is
important for all athletes to see one of these two because of
all the NCAA rules that must be followed.
-
There are
several courses that you must enroll in for the fall semester.
You must not
schedule academic units between 12 noon and 3pm -
Women’s Basketball practice time
slot is everyday from 12:00 noon until 3:00pm. This
is where some of you will get confused but…don’t worry;
we will
help you once we get you here and enrolled for the summer. Fall
semester you will have to sign up for PE 166, PE 211, PE 130, ASC 110, and ASC 50.
-
You must be
enrolled in 12 academic units to be eligible to play, which
means that you will have about 18 units each semester. The goal
is to keep you on pace to leave here in two years with an
Associates Degree.
-
You must also
maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in order to be eligible. Your
education is most important.
-
Returning
players must have completed 24 units and maintained a minimum
2.0 GPA.
-
Campus visits
– we would like to meet each of you on campus and show you around
as well as introduce you to some of our fantastic returning
student-athletes. We can set this up but it is very important
to enjoy your last weeks of high school so there is no urgency.
We can always do your campus visits in June.
Wow…this is
probably enough to get you started. Please call us or email us with
any questions you may have. As we stated in the beginning, we
are
excited by the possibilities of next season. Palomar College is an
outstanding educational and athletic institution. We will only be
better with quality student-athletes like you on our campus.
Have a great day!

August 15, 2005
Hello Ladies,
We hope you
have had a wonderful summer and you are ready to go here at
Palomar College. In case you don’t know, school starts on
Monday August 22, 2005. You should be enrolled in a minimum of
12 units but realistically you should have at least 15-16 units
including all the basketball classes you have to take in order
to be eligible to play. Returning players, you need to have a
minimum of 24 units completed and have a GPA above 2.0.
Some of you
are not signed up for the basketball classes. I will list them
again and please make sure you are enrolled by Monday.

PE 211 # 70620

PE 130 # 70625

ACS 110 #
72723 Intercollegiate Athletics – Women’s Basketball
Incoming first
year student-athletes must take an ACS 50 and there are several
choices listed on page 17 in the class schedule. (Take one of
the Friday sections because it goes the first 8 weeks and we
don’t practice on Friday’s until the second 8 weeks.)
Parking will
be a nightmare the first few weeks of school. Make sure you get
a parking pass. There is nothing we can do or the athletic
department can do if you get a parking citation. Give
yourselves an extra 30 minutes to park once you actually arrive
on campus. If you have enrolled in a 7:00 am class you will be
able to find a parking spot fairly easily – anything after that
will be crazy.
Monday August
22 we will meet in the gym at 12 noon. You do not need to dress
out on Monday. We will deal with enrollment issues and get
everything squared away for Tuesday. You will need to be ready
to go on Tuesday for two hours of basketball drills and then
conditioning follows for one hour. Please bring your clothes,
basketball shoes, running shoes, water, and anything else you
need on Tuesday. Athletic lockers will be issued in a few
weeks. We will usually be finished with basketball by 3:00 pm
daily so you can arrange your work schedules accordingly.
Coach Titus
will be out of her office on Tuesday but back in for meetings
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Coach Jennum will be on campus
in meetings on Thursday. Please email Coach Titus or Coach
Jennum with questions. We will meet with you as soon as possible
if there are any problems – just let us know.
We are very
excited and know that with some hard work we will have a great
team again this year. Each of you will contribute something
toward our success and we are anxious to get started. We have
big goals in mind for this season…
Enjoy your
final week of summer
Coach Jennum
April 2005,
I have talked with
some of you on the phone, or in my office and many of you should
have received a mailing from us here at Palomar College and our

you to be excited about continuing your education and your
basketball careers at Palomar College.
We were the

hired a new assistant coach and we truly believe with your

fourth championship in the 2005-06 season. It will take hours of
hard work both in the classroom and on the court but you have the
potential for success here at Palomar College.
