2003-2004 Season Highlights

Co-champ Comets

stay home; 3 All-PCC

Palomar College tied for the Pacific Coast Conference women's basketball championship but was not given a bid to the State Community College Tournament Southern California Regionals.

Imperial Valley, the team the Comets tied for the title, will visit Saddleback in a first-round game Friday night, Feb. 27, while Palomar stays home. The teams split their two conference games, with the Comets winning 75-57 on Jan. 31 at Palomar and the Arabs winning 58-49 Saturday night at IVC.

Three Palomar players made the all-conference first team — sophomore guard Lindsay Duringer (Rancho Bernardo High School), sophomore forward Lina Fanene (Carlsbad High School) and freshman forward Kacie Kostlan (Poway High School). Palomar's Chelsey McFarlin, Erin O'Connor, Lauren Ong, Brittany Stranick and Jackie Witt made honorable mention.

Palomar coach Sherry Titus was named conference Coach of the Year.

Women's Athlete of the Week

Comets' O'Connor

FEB. 18, 2004 -The Pacific Coast Conference has selected Palomar College basketball player Erin O'Connor as one of its Women's Athletes of the Week for the week that ended Sunday.

O'Connor, a 5-foot, 9-inch freshman swing player from Poway High School, helped lead the defending champion and first-place Comets to two more victories.

O'Connor scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds (five on offense) and also had two steals and a block in a 79-47 win over Cuyamaca.

She came back with 21 points and 16 rebounds (six on offense) as the Comets turned back Southwestern 61-50.

Women's Athlete of the Week

Comets' Fanene picked

FEB. 4, 2004 - The Pacific Coast Conference has selected Palomar College basketball player Lina Fanene as its Women's Athlete of the Week for the week that ended Sunday.

Fanene, a 5-11 sophomore post player from Carlsbad High School, led the defending champion Comets to two victories as they moved into undisputed first place in the PCC standings at the halfway point in the conference season.

Fanene scored 38 points in the two games, hauled down 21 rebounds and also had six steals, four blocks and five assists.

Fanene contributed 21 points and 11 rebounds in an 88-69 victory over Grossmont.

She came back with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 75-57 victory over Imperial Valley, which was tied with the Comets for first place entering the game.

Honorable mention for the week went  to  Palomar basketball player Katie Kostlan.

Kostlan, a 5-foot, 9-inch freshman guard from Poway High School, had 13 points, seven assists and three steals vs. Grossmont. She came back with 10 points, eight assists and two blocks in the Imperial Valley game

Women's Athlete of the Week

JAN. 27, 2004The Pacific Coast Conference has selected as Honorable mention for the week: Palomar basketball players Lindsay Duringer and Lina Fanene.

Duringer, a 5-foot-8 inch sophomore guard from Rancho Bernardo High School, scored 16 points and dished off four assists in the Comets' 72-59 win over Southwestern.

Fanene, a 5-11 sophomore post player from Carlsbad High School, helped lead the Comets over the Jaguars with 10 rebounds, five blocked shots and four assists.

An individual may be honored as Athlete of the Week only once each season of her sport Duringer was Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 18

JAN. 20, 2004The Pacific Coast Conference has honored Palomar College basketball player Lindsay Duringer as its Women's Athlete of the Week for the week that ended Sunday.

Duringer, a 5-foot-8 inch sophomore guard from Rancho Bernardo High School, led the defending champion Comets to a 65-59 road victory over San Diego Mesa in their conference opener.

Duringer scored 20 points, passed off for four assists and had six steals against the Olympians.

Honorable mention for the week went to Palomar basketball player Erin O'Connor. O'Connor, a 5-9 freshman guard / forward from Poway High School, had 14 rebounds and four steals in the Comets' win over San Diego Mesa.
