running at Poway HS under former Palomar
outfielder Bob Parry. ... Was a three-time
All-Palomar League selection. ... Led the Titans
in hitting three straight seasons. ... Received
and was All-America Louisville Slugger selection,
Rawlings All-Region selection and Poway High
Silver Bat award winner. ... Also made the San
Diego Union-Tribune All-Academic Team.
2000
SEASON: After
transfering from the University of Texas at
Austin after the fall semester, Guthrie
immediately won the starting third base job for
the Comets and batted .313 with 10 home runs and
33 RBIs. ... Had a huge today against Cerritos in
the Southern California regionals at UC Riverside
when he homered in three consecutive at-bats. Hit
a two-run shot in the second inning and solo
shots to lead off the fourth and sixth as the
Comets won, 12-7. Guthrie finished the game
4-for-4 with the three home runs, four RBIs, four
runs scored. He drew an intentional walk in the
seventh inning and finished the game with a bunt
single and stolen base in the ninth. ... Guthrie
hit six home runs the final seven games of the
season. ... Received Palomar's Outstanding
Defensive Player award. ... During the
off-season, he received the Best Pro Prospect
Award in the New England Collegiate Baseball
League wood-bat league, where he led the league
in hitting with a .529 average.

Slugged three home runs and wound up
going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, four runs scored
and a stolen base in a Southern California
Regional victory over Cerritos at UC Riverside.

SEASON: Guthrie
batted a solid .287 for the Comets with 13
doubles, three triples to lead the team, five
home runs to tie for the team lead and 36 RBIs,
second best on the team. ... Was second on tthe
team with a .491 slugging percentage. ... Also
stole 16 bases in 17 attempts. ... But his
biggest value was on defense, where he
wasspectacular. ... Had multiple-hit games
against Canada on Feb. 3, Irvine Valley on Feb.
16, College of the Siskiyous on Feb. 17, Orange
Coast on Feb. 21, Southwestern on Feb. 24,
Grossmont on March 3, San Diego City College on
March 13, Imperial Valley on March 29, Mt. SAC on
April 10, Golden West on April 12 and Imperial
Valley on May 1. ... He slugged a three-run homer
in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat
Siskiyous, 16-15, on Feb. 17, and had an
inside-the-park home run on the road vs. Imperial
Valley in the Comets' 6-0 victory on May 1.
