SEASON: Finished
the regular season with a 2.88 earned run
average, second best on the team, for 34 1/3
innings. ... Has appeared in 15 games, third
highest total on the team. ... Closed the regular
season with a spectacular performance in a 10-3
win over Southwestern on April 30, when he threw
seven innings of four-hit ball without giving up
an earned run, to earn the win. ... Utilized
primarily as a set-up man, he pitched three
innings of shutout, two-hit ball in a win at Long
Beach City College on Feb. 9; a 1-2-3 inning in a
victory at Golden West on Feb. 12; two innings of
shutout, no-hit ball at San Diego City College on
March 2; and 3 2/3 innings of shutout, no-hit
ball to pick up the win March 14 vs. San Diego
Mesa. In that game he came on with the bases
loaded and one out in the sixth and got out of
the inning with a double-play ground ball, then
proceeded to retire the first 10 batters he
faced. ... Pitched two innings of no-hit, shutout
relief ball vs. Grossmont on April 20, and threw
2 1/3 innings of no-hit, shutout relief vs. San
Diego City College on April 25.

POSTSEASON:
Began a middle-relief stint with 3 2/3
shutout innings in the Comets' Southern
California Regional opener against Glendale on
May 10 before tiring and leaving the game in the
eighth.
2001
SEASON: Was
6-0 for the Comets with an earned run averages of
2.83 for 35 innings. ... Girgenti made nine
straight relief appearances without giving up a
run to conclude the regular season. ... The last
earned run he surrendered in a regular-season
game came on Feb. 20 against Cypress. ...
Pitching almost exclusively in relief, Girgenti's
victories have come against Canada, College of
the Siskiyous, San Diego City College, San Diego
City again, Southwestern and Mt. SAC. ...
Girgenti finished the Pacific Coast Conference
season 3-0 with an ERA of 0.00 for 20 2/3
