Costa Canyon, making second-team All-Avocado
League as a junior and graduating in 1999. ...
During the off-season he continued a long
association playing for the Encinitas Reds. The
Reds won five World Series titles in the
Continental Amateur Baseball Association and the
American Amateur Baseball Congress while Balderos
was playing for them. ... With the Reds, Balderas
played for former Comet pitcher Dana Blalock.
2000
SEASON: Saw
limited action for the Comets, getting only 19
at-bats.
2001
SEASON: Delivered
some clutch hits for the Comets while splitting
time in right field with Jesse Schmidt and
finished the season with a .311 batting average.
... Went 2-for-3 against one of the best teams on
Palomar's schedule on Feb. 20, doubling and
singling to drive in a run against Cypress. ...
Went 2-for-4 the following day as the Comets
handed Orange Coast its first loss against a
California opponent this season after 10 straight
wins. His three-run double in the fourth inning
keyed a six-run outburst that enabled Palomar to
come back from a 5-1 deficit and take the lead.
... Balderas also had multiple-hit games vs.
Imperial Valley on March 14 and March 31, against
San Diego City College on April 17, and against
San Bernardino Valley in the Southern California
Regionals, when he went 2-for-5 with a pair of
doubles.
