Academic Technology Web Services
We
create and manage web and ftp accounts for faculty, staff and
students. We assist in web design and publishing, and troubleshoot
web technology problems. We maintain most of the campus web servers,
and author the District web pages.
We also administer and maintain web systems such as the
online college, academic
webboards,
and the faculty web server. Use the following forms to request our
services.
Web Request Forms
Developmental
Blackboard Course. If you are interested in using
Blackboard to teach online, or
as an enhancement to your real-time class(es), submit a
Blackboard
Developmental Course request form, or
contact
David Gray (ext. 2862).
Add Students to
Blackboard. If you use Blackboard to teach
an online class at Palomar College, and wish to add students to your
existing online class, submit an
Add Student request
(login required). If you have difficulty, or wish
clarification regarding this procedure, contact
David
Gray (ext. 2862).
Web Site. If
you are faculty/staff at Palomar and wish to create
a web site, submit a web site request
form, or contact
Chris
Norcross (ext. 3225).
Class Web/FTP Sites.
If you are a faculty member at Palomar College, and would like web sites
and ftp accounts created for all students in one or more of your
classes, submit a class FTP request form, or contact
David
Gray (ext. 2862). Technical information and tools are
available at:
http://pluto.palomar.edu. The
student projects server is configured with the .NET Framework and
FrontPage 2002 server extensions and the student content is stored in
WebDAV-enabled
space. This means that complex editing systems such as Microsoft
FrontPage 2002 and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX can connect directly to the
web sites, in addition to using simpler
FTP
programs.
WebBoards. If
you are Palomar faculty/staff, and would like your own
webboard, (i.e., an online discussion
area) submit this
webboard
request form, or contact
Terry Gray.
We have developed a helpful tutorial for first-time webboard users at
http://daphne.palomar.edu/wb.
Web Search Form.
If you have developed a Palomar College web site on one of the servers
administered by Academic Technology, we can create a custon, asp search
form for your site. If you wish to have one, submit a
Web
Search request form, or contact
Shay
Phillips (ext. 2845).
Graphics Services.
If you have a special graphics project for your web site with which you
need help, or wish to use clip art, or want 35mm slides converted for
use on your web site, submit a
Graphics Support request form, or
contact
Elaine Armstrong (ext. 2644).
-
Document Scanning. If you wish to
convert to PDF format printed handouts, class lectures, or other
materials, use the Document Scanning
Request Form to schedule time for us to do this for you.
Web Site Design
Services. If you are Palomar College faculty or staff, and want help
in designing your web site, submit a
Web Site Design request, or
contact
Chris Norcross (ext. 3225).
Streaming Media.
If you have video or audio files, PowerPoint presentations, or digital
photos you would like placed in a slide-show format, and you would like
this media streamed on your web site in Real or Windows media formats,
submit a Streaming Media request, or contact
Terry
Gray (ext. 2877). ATG can capture, encode and stream media
from any standard format. We can also assist you in producing
media by filming presentations using a digital camcorder, digital audio
recorder, or create slide-show formats with voice-overs.
-
DVD Creation. You may request that
video clips be digitized and placed on a CD for ease of access in the
classroom. Contact
Terry Gray
(ext. 2877).
-
Video Production Request.
Academic Technology and Educational
Television are teaming up to produce custom professor videos for the
web. If you wish to create a video--an introduction to your class,
a chapter summary, a special topic that requires a longer
explanation--submit this form. ETV will contact you in order to
schedule studio time. Academic technology will then encode the
video and place links to it on your web site or within your Blackboard
course. To reserve time and discuss the matter
further, click here, or
contact Terry Gray, phone ext. 2877.
Web Surveys. We have installed new web
survey software which allows faculty to create custom surveys of their
students. The survey software may also be used by administrative
departments and committees. If you wish to set up a survey,
contact Chris Norcross, phone ext. 3225,
cnorcross@palomar.edu, for
information.
Web Site Testing. Academic Technology
subscribes to a service that will test your web site, and send you
resulting screen shots, on 18 different browser platforms. If you
are interested in testing your site, contact Chris Norcross, phone ext.
3225, cnorcross@palomar.edu,
for information.
Web Usage Tracking. Academic
Technology tracks usage of our many web sites. If you would like a
custom report for your site, contact Shay Phillips,
sphillips@palomar.edu, phone ext. 2845, for more information.
