ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATOR
CERTIFICATE

These courses prepare the student for employment as an archaeological site excavator. In order to earn a certificate, students must achieve a minimum grade of "C" in each of the certificate program courses
 

     Required Courses (Fall 2008) Units
ANTH 100*    Introduction to Biological Anthropology 3
ANTH 105    Introduction to Cultural Anthropology 3
ANTH 110    Introduction to Archaeology 3
ANTH 120**    Archaeological Excavation 3
ANTH 130    Prehistoric Cultures of North America 3
ANTH 140    The Original Californians (3 units)  
or    
ANTH 121#    Cultural Resource Management (1 unit)  and  
ANTH 297    Special Problems in Archaeology (2 units) 3
ANTH 205**    Advanced Archaeological Excavation 3



     Total Units 21

*ANTH 100 & 100L can be combined by taking ANTH 101 (4 units)
*ANTH 120 & 205 are taught concurrently only in the Fall semester.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL  SURVEYOR
AND LABORATORY  ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE

These courses prepare the student for employment as an archaeological surveyor and laboratory assistant. In order to earn a certificate, students must achieve a minimum grade of "C" in each of the certificate program courses

 

     Required Courses Units
ANTH 100    Introduction to Biological Anthropology 3
ANTH 105    Introduction to Cultural Anthropology 3
ANTH 110    Introduction to Archaeology 3
ANTH 120    Archaeological Excavation 3
ANTH 210    Archaeological Surveying* 3
ANTH 205    Advanced Archaeological Excavation  3
or         
ANTH 220    Advanced Archaeological Survey* 3
ANTH 215    Archaeological Laboratory Analysis** 3



     Total Units 21

*ANTH 210 & 220 are taught together once every 2 years in the Spring.
**ANTH 215 is taught once every 2 years in the Spring;
 it alternates with the surveying classes ANTH 210/220 noted above.
